MELISSA coordinator at Synergies for Integrated Care Showcase Event: Towards an integrated healthcare system to prevent and address NCDs in Europe
As part of Horizon Europe’s push for an integrated healthcare system, MELISSA’s coordinator, Bastiaan de Galan from Maastricht University, joined representatives from other EU health projects at the Synergies for Integrated Care showcase event in Rome (28 - 29 October 2024). He took part in a panel discussion focused on integrated care to prevent and address non-communicable diseases – NCDs (i.e., cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and obesity).
The event emphasised a critical goal of the European Union: building a healthcare system that can effectively respond to chronic health needs through shared practices and resources, ensuring consistent care quality across borders. The participation of Bastiaan de Galan in this event highlights how the MELISSA project, dedicated to advancing diabetes care, contributes to the broader EU effort to combat NCDs like diabetes and cardiovascular issues through synergistic, cross-project collaboration.
The showcase event was co-organised by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) in collaboration with the Joint Action on increasing Capacity building for National Focal Points – JA NFP4Health, the Horizon Europe Partnership for Transforming HealthCare Systems - THCS, the Joint Action on cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and diabetes – JACARDI and the Horizon Europe Health National Contact Points HNN3.0.
