EDUCATE study: An Insight Into Real-World Diabetes Research

The EDUCATE study continues to make steady progress, bringing researchers closer to understanding how people living with diabetes manage their condition in everyday life. By combining information on glucose levels, physical activity, nutrition and self-management skills, the study helps generate evidence to support more personalised diabetes care and improve future digital health solutions.

Since the start of the study, 112 participants have joined the research across the Netherlands, Germany, Greece and Denmark. Together, participants have already contributed a remarkable amount of real-world data.

  • ~1.521 days of physical activity monitoring which helps us understand the effects of physical activity and sleep on glucose levels
  • About 224 Dexcom glucose sensors were mounted
  • 2.437 meal photos and 481 food barcodes collected through the goFOOD™ Lite app

These data provide valuable insights into how lifestyle factors such as physical activity, nutrition and daily routines interact with glucose management. The EDUCATE study is designed to explore these relationships while also examining health literacy and diabetes self-management skills, helping researchers better understand the challenges people face in their everyday lives.

The knowledge gained through EDUCATE will directly support the development of the MELISSA platform. By understanding individual needs and behaviours, researchers can further personalise AI-driven diabetes support tools, making them more useful and accessible for people living with diabetes.

A heartfelt thank you goes to every participant who has contributed their time, experiences and data. Your commitment is helping shape the future of personalised diabetes care!
